Developmental Services Ontario is open for business

Posted on: July 22nd, 2011

Developmental Services Ontario for the North East Region operated by Hands is officially now open for business. The DSO team was thrilled to meet with the honourable Deputy Minister Marg Rappolt who visited our North Bay site on July 20. The Minister commented on the dedication and compassion the team demonstrated and congratulated us on our efforts to keep our North East Region community partners informed and part of the transformation process. The Minister encouraged us to keep moving forward as each new piece falls into place. There is still much work to be done to achieve the vision of improving access to services for individuals and families. The DSO-NER team is working hard one step at a time towards our desired future.

Hands assists Laurentian with Poverty and Homelessness Research

Posted on: July 20th, 2011

This week Hands will be involved in supporting research being conducted by Laurentian University. Researchers with Laurentian are studying homelessness in North Bay with an emphasis on understanding issues related to transience and migration. The study Poverty, Homelessness and Migration in North Bay involves a count (or period-prevalence study) of persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The purpose is to gain information that will lead to the development of policies and changes that will support people who are homeless, or at risk of being homeless, more effectively.

The results of the study will be posted in the Fall on the project website found at www.laurentian.ca
