Hands is major beneficiary of new “Give Where You Live” initiative

Posted on: June 25th, 2013

On Friday June 21, 2013 the North Bay and Area Community Foundation launched its Give Where You Live (GWYL) campaign to help support not-for-profit and charitable organizations in the community.

Give Where You Live will be raising funds through point-of-sale micro-donations at the partnered local businesses to support and strengthen North Bay and Area’s local charities and not-for-profits. All money raised stays in the local North Bay and Nipissing Area.

GWYL will be supporting five beneficiaries, one major and four minor beneficiaries each year of the program. For 2013-2014, the major beneficiary will be Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca.

The latest anti bullying initiative in the area has been launched. A partnership has been formed between Rogers Radio North Bay, The Northgate Shopping Centre, Kids Help Phone and Hands The Family Help Network. Funds raised from sales of Band wristbands sold at the Northgate Shopping Centre will benefit Hands and Kids Help Phone. Jeffrey Hawkins is the Executive Director of Hands. He says the funds will help but this is about awareness too. He says 64 per cent of kids say they’re being bullied and all people have to stand up and say it’s not okay. Susan Gilroy of Kids Help Phone says they hear about bullying a lot from the youth that call in. She says the issues behind the bullying cover a wide range of things that often result in bullying. – Courtesy of Rogers Radio.

Wristbands can be purchased from the Customer Service Kiosk at the Northgate Shopping Centre for only $2.00 each! Show your support by wearing your wristband and starting the conversation!
