North Bay YMCA Health Kids Day – June 1st

Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca would like to thank Chicks in Biz – Women’s Small Business Network for hosting the successful 2nd Annual Mom Show and for choosing our organization as the donation recipient. The May 3rd event was a hit with lots of local businesses, artisans and entertainment filling the Voyager Inn! We truly have some incredibly talented people in our community! Having the opportunity to attend the event and share who we are and what we do with so many families, was a wonderful experience.

A big thank you to the donors who made contributions to Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca during the event. Your generosity and support for the well-being of families in our community is greatly appreciated. Thank you to everyone who came out to the event and supported our local businesses and artisans!

Again, thank you to the Chicks in Biz network; it truly means a lot that you thought about our organization and the families we support.

Hands Launches “Shine The Light” Video for Mental Health Wellness!

In celebration of Child and Youth Mental Health Week 2014, Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca is pleased to announce the launch of their video “Shine The Light on Mental Health Wellness”! The video, which features youth from Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts, was created to get young people talking about the importance of staying mentally well. Hands staff will be presenting the video along with presentations on mental health wellness throughout the mental health week in area schools.

Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca would like to thank all of their local school boards for embracing the project, and all of the teachers and individual schools who encouraged their students to participate! A big thank you to all of the youth who took the time to share their thoughts and Shine The Light on Mental Health Wellness!

May is Community Living Month!

May is Community Living Month in Ontario. Each year, Community Livings hosts various activities across the municipality to increase awareness of our organization and create a strong unified message of inclusion for people who have an intellectual disability.

In North Bay, DSO and Hand staff attended the Flag Raising at City Hall on May 5, 2014 with Community Living North Bay.

Behaviour Management Workshops May 5th-7th Open to Public

In celebration of Child and Youth Mental Health Week May 4-10, Hands is hosting Behaviour Management Workshops that are open to the public!

Behaviour Management Workshop participants will learn effective strategies to decrease negative behaviour and to increase communication, set expectations, praise, correct behaviour, use reflective listening and respond to challenging behaviours. Child and Youth Mental Health Week May 4th-10th Events

Hands CYMH Week Events Calendar

1 in 5 Ontario children and youth have a mental health issue. Each year we celebrate Child and Youth Mental Health Week to help bring awareness to mental health and wellbeing for the children and youth in our communities. This year during CYMH Week (May 4th-10th) we will be hosting and participating in a wide variety of activities across Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts.
