Funds raised from sales of Band wristbands sold at the Northgate Shopping Centre will benefit Hands and Kids Help Phone. Jeffrey Hawkins is the Executive Director of Hands. With the groundbreaking of the facility last June, less than one year later, Hands is shedding light on their ongoing development of offering high-skilled services and programs to our community and all ages in a new state-of-the-art facility geared towards supporting youth in a safe learning environment.

The new Hands Family Therapeutic Residence is a single-storey, multi-unit therapeutic educational and learning facility located off John Street near Third Avenue. This facility will provide services to youth and teenagers along with assisting families.

“This is a day that has been highly anticipated, full of excitement and fulfillment. It is the culmination of a lot of hard work from many people, years in the making from the ground level to executive staff of Hands, Ministry staff, past and current Board Members and all those who had a hand in the design and construction of this truly wonderful facility. We should all be very proud of what has been achieved and need only look to the remarkable benefits that this Residential Treatment Centre will have for the Community and most importantly the kids and families that it will serve.” Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca Executive Director, Jeffrey Hawkins.

MP Jay Aspin, MPP Vic Fedeli, Mayor Al McDonald and Monique Legault, from the Ministry of Child and Youth Services were on hand to offer their support, and give interviews. Comments from Michael Mancari, Board Chair were read, “To me, this grand opening is more than just showing off a building. It is making that difference in a child’s life that will help put them on the right track, helping to strengthen families as a whole and to me; there is nothing more rewarding. This was the vision that I saw when I became involved with Hands and today proves that I made the right choice.” Michael Mancari, Board Chair.

Monique Legault, Regional Director of North East Ontario for the Ministry of Child and Youth Services read comments from Teresa Peruzza, Minister of Child and Youth Services and Ministry of Community and Social Social Services, “Our government has made it a priority to provide the best possible services to children and youth and their families when they need it, as close to home as possible. Ontario’s capital investment of $2.3 million in this new residence, along with $16.5 million in ongoing support to Hands, will help us stay focused on that goal of delivering a wide range of programs in world class environment.”
