<p>On Wednesday May 9th, Widdifield&#8217;s student group &#8220;Free The Children&#8221; hosted an International Dinner with proceeds going to Hands The FamilyHelpNetwork.ca and our new Children&#8217;s Residential Treatment Centre! The night, which started off with welcoming remarks from Hands&#8217; Executive Director Jeffrey Hawkins and Board of Directors President Jim MacLachlan, continued with live dance performances by Widdifield students. The sold out crowd was treated to a delicous four-course meal prepared by the chef of Le Bon Marche Glenn Sheridan. Other features of the evening were the silent auction, an art auction and Widdifield&#8217;s Marketplace Shopping which included a very popular Henna Tattoo table.</p>
<p>It was a wonderful night, the Widdifield students and teachers did an incredible job preparing and organizing the entire evening. Hands is incredibly proud and honoured to have been a part of this fabulous evening.</p>

<p>This year <strong>Children&#8217;s Mental Health Week is May 6th -12th,</strong> and Hands is hosting and participating in a variety of activities and events taking place across the Region! </p>

Contest wraps up April 30th. The contest is open to students in grades 7-12 across Nipissing and Parry Sound.</p>

<p><strong>Sturgeon Falls Open House<br />
</strong>Saturday May 5th from 11:00am-1:00pm, Hands&#8217; Sturgeon Falls office is hosting an open house with free BBQ, kids activities and face painting. Office located at 65 Queen St., Sturgeon Falls.</p>
<p><strong>Mental Health Week Wave<br />
</strong>Monday May 7th from 8:00am to 9:00am, Hands is joining other North Bay mental health agencies in a &#8220;Beat the Monday Blues&#8221; wave on the Lakeshore Drive, North Bay overpass. Come join us as we kick-off the week&#8217;s events and raise awareness for adult and child mental health week!</p>

</strong>Wednesday May 9th, Almaguin Highlands Secondary School is hosting an event which showcases programs for youth and families from grades 7 to age 25 accessing services. Hands among with other community partners will have a booth set-up with information about the services we offer.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hands&#8217; 2nd annual <strong>Shine The Light</strong> video contest in support of mental health awareness among youth is underway!</p>
<p>Shine The Light 2012 is a video contest open to Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts students in grades 7-12. Students must create an original video representing the theme <strong>&#8220;increasing awareness and decreasing the stigma of mental health</strong>&#8220;. Last year, Hands received over 40 video submissions, and staff are hoping to double that number this year. The contest which launched February 10th closes on April 30th, with grand prizes given out during Children&#8217;s Mental Health Week May 6-12, 2012.</p>
<p>Hands&#8217; invites all those interested to visit the <a title="Shine The Light 2012" href="http://thefamilyhelpnetwork.ca/shine-the-light-2012" target="_self">Shine The Light 2012</a> section of their website to see full contest rules and to submit a video. There are lots of amazing prizes to be won, including the grand prize: $500 Walmart gift card!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Our Autism Services in the North Bay area have moved to 820 Lakeshore Drive. The services included in the move are:</p>
<ul>
<li>ASD School Support Program (SSP)</li>
<li>Behaviour Communication Therapy (BCT) services</li>
<li>Enhanced Respite Services</li>
<li>Autism Intervention Program (AIP)</li>
</ul>
<p>We are very excited to have all of our Autism Services in this new space as it will streamline and enhanced the quality of the services that we offer.</p>
