Children and Families Celebrate World Autism Awareness Day

Posted on: April 6th, 2017

Children and families celebrated World Autism Awareness Day with a flag raising ceremony on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca’s Lakeshore Drive location.

The event provided children and their parents with an opportunity to celebrate autism, as well as promote the importance of early identification and supports in the North Bay community.Photo of flag raising

“Events such as our flag raising today allow our staff to connect with parents in the community who may have concerns and perhaps are unsure of where to go for help, said Jennifer Roussy, Clinical Supervisor at Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca. “Through services such as Intensive Behavioural Intervention, we are able to provide individualized one-on-one supports to young children right here in North Bay, and across the North East Region.”

Parents of young children who have concerns can access Hands’ autism screening tool online at: www.thefamilyhelpnetwork.ca/autism-support. Upon completion of the screener, parents may choose to provide their contact information and Hands’ Autism Resource Coordinator will reach out. Alternatively, parents can call their local Hands office directly or toll free at 1-800-668-8555.

World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated annually on April 2nd, although Hands is thrilled to be able to offer activities throughout the week that continue to spread the message.

Hands is also hosting an Easter Fun event in North Bay for Autism Awareness. There will be fun and activities for children of all ages on Saturday, April 8th starting at 11:00 am. Spaces are limited; please call 705-476-2299 ext. 1323 to reserve your spot.
