Hands Employee Recognized for Leadership in Developmental Services

Angie Nethercott, Senior Behaviour Consultant at Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca was recently recognized provincially at the Developmental Services Human Resource Strategy Forum as a Leadership Award recipient. This award acknowledges and celebrates organizations and individuals who embody the very best qualities and practices in service provision to persons with a developmental disability.

Angie and her colleague David Hinsburger with Vita Community Living Services (Toronto) were recognized for their leadership role in producing a valuable resource. Since 2012, the two have co-edited ‘Supports, Services and Success: The Direct Support Services Newsletter’ which offers strategies for those working in the Developmental Services field.

The ‘Supports, Services and Success’ publication has obtained international readership across 134 countries and is being used by colleges and universities as instructional material.  One Direct Support Professional commented on the newsletter saying “I am very impressed with the content and the relevance for front line workers”.

At Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca, Angie is part of the North Community Network of Specialized Care (NCNSC) team, which is a network of clinical services and partners from across Northern Ontario that is committed to improving the quality of life of adults with developmental disabilities and co-existing mental health issues and/or challenging behaviours.
