Sensory Friendly Halloween for All Families

Posted on: October 31st, 2016

Halloween is an exciting holiday for kids, but it may offer certain challenges for children with Autism. Lighting, noise and scary costumes, combined with a change to routine, going out in the dark, and knocking on doors, can be an uncomfortable experience. Here are some tips and tricks for parents of children with Autism, and the community, to help make Halloween a positive experience for all families:

  • Ensure your child’s costume fits easily;
  • Eliminate bright lights, noises and scary decorations from your home;
  • Preparation and planning ahead can help family and friends stay stress-free; and
  • Most importantly, ensure your child’s comfort and take your cues from him/her.
